Patches
You don't want to know something about that, do you? *grin*. OK, some of them aren't
really patches.
Here is a list of what I have installed as a commodity. This list doesn't contain the
hidden patches in the background.
- ClipHistory
- This little tool by Magnus Holmgrem gives me a list of the last used clips and then I
can choose one and insert it into the input stream. Quite handy that thing. It isn't a
patch actually. It is system legal.
- Directory Opus 5
- This isn't a patch, isn't it? *g* Oh, in fact even Opus or better its task
"DO_LAUNCHER" patches some system functions, at least on my system.
- Executive
- Executive by Petri Nordlund is a patch that installs a better scheduler - at least in my
eyes - to the system. This gives me better multitasking and no CPU eating high priority
task blocks out the whole system when being scheduled by Executive. It works nicely with
Opus when you add the following configuration entry to its preferences:
TYPE |
NAME |
ACTION |
PRIORITY |
TASK |
DO_LAUNCHER |
NOSCHEDULE |

- Magic Menu
- This great tool by Martin Korndörfer and Olaf 'Olsen' Barthel gives really nice looking
pull down menus. In its newer versions 2.19 or above it behaves really stable on my
system. I like the non blocking mode. When enabled the display won't be blocked when I
open a pull down menu like with the original AmigaOS pull down menu routines.
- MCP
- This loved and hated Master Control Program of unique and very safe system patches -
*grin* - works nicely with Opus when you disable all options that try to change the
behaviour of Workbench. MCP can patch itself into internals of the original Workbench that
aren't there in Directory Opus. It gives me the 3D look in normal gadtools gadgets as you
can see in the »Commodities Handler« - CXHandler is a great Exchange replacement by
Martin Stengle and B. Jessel - window. Handle MCP with care! It may interfere with Opus
severely when not configured correctly.
- Miami
- No, this isn't a patch either. But it comes quite handy when you want FTPBatch to
download some files via the great OpusFTP. Of course you can use any other Internet stack,
but I prefer Miami.
- MRQ
- This gives me really great system requesters. It is written by
Matthias Bethke. It uses the great Magic User Interface, MUI, by Stefan Stuntz.
- NewIcons
- Opus Magellan supports NewIcons on its own. But when you want to have AppIcons in
Newicons style you better install that NewIcons patch. It doesn't harm. NewIcons is being
written by the Team NewIcons: Eric Sauvageau, Phil Vedovatti, Ariel Magnum and Nicola
Salmoria for older versions until 2.0.
- SGrab
- This great screen grabber by Stephan Rupprecht did a good job in grabbing the
screenshots you can see here and in my filetypes tutorials. It sports a GUI unlike
CyberGrab which I used before.
- TurboSpool
- Is part of the great TurboPrint printer driver system.
